The well-awaited remake duo Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp would have been released for the Nintendo Switch on April 8, but is now being postponed indefinitely. The reason is the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine (ie the “special military operation”, depending on who you ask). The news was announced on Twitter earlier today. A new release date can not be given at the moment, but all Nintendo accounts on the site ask fans to stay updated.
The only amazing thing about this is that it took so long to happen. IN Advance Wars the story begins with the Blue Moon army invading Orange Star’s territory. As if that were not enough, the two armies are quite obvious analogies to Russia and the United States respectively. Although the story is not as two-dimensional as this description suggests, it is not difficult to have some understanding of the decision.
This is the second time that Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp gets its release postponed. The package would initially arrive by Christmas 2021, but needed a little more time in development. The question is whether the project is now doomed to evaporate in the gloomy world situation. It does not feel completely unlikely that the series will disappear for another decade. Let’s hope that does not happen.
