The first Anodyne has at the time of writing been made available on a total of eight different platforms since its release in 2013. The 2019 sequel Anodyne 2: Return to Dust now takes up the fight when ported to no less than five additional formats: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and Nintendo Switch. This from being available only on PC (Windows / Linux) and Mac. Anodyne 2 reaches the new formats on the same day, 18 February. The price tag will be around SEK 200.
Anodyne 2 is a 3D platform game with caves and caverns reminiscent of 2D Zelda games. The main inspiration comes from the PlayStation / Nintendo 64 era, which has given the game an epithet as “lo-fi”. The creators Analgesic Productions consists of only two people: Melos Han-Tani and Marina Kittaka. In addition to the Anodyne games, they have also developed All Our Asians and Even the Ocean. Anodyne 2 marketed by the developers / publishers Ratalaika Games, whose catalog includes an impressive amount of indie games.
Will you test Anodyne 2? Personally, I liked the original a lot, which has an almost spooky quality about it (as well as an extremely good one soundtrack!). It’s high time for the second to take the step from my backlog to my playlist.
