As usual, January has hosted HLTV’s annual “Top 20 players of the year”. There, the site goes through the year’s 20 best players who have also contributed to their team’s success. Before the top three, it was between some of the most popular players in CS: GO; The two-time (reigning) winner “Zywoo”, “Niko” who placed in the top six years in a row and “s1mple” who won 2019 and came second in the last two years.
With a look back at last year’s performance, it was a pretty convincing victory for the Ukrainian “S1mple”, who had one of the best seasons imaginable and where not only his own performance is lifted, but his team Navi has become the toughest opposition in the world.
With, among other things, a gold medal and the award as the tournament’s best player during the major tournament last autumn, “s1mple” finally got the first place he has strived for for many years.
In the wraps of the CS: GO scene, it was not unusual to have a Swedish player in first place, where “Get_Right” won both 2013 and 2014, and “Olofmeister” who won in 2015. This year, however, the Swedish names were completely forgotten and not a single blue-yellow players entered the coveted list. This is the first time since its inception in 2013.
