Last weekend, the two final teams met in the semifinals. A match that ended in favor of Fnatic, but G2 fought back through a win against Rogue in the lower part of the tournament. Now they met again to secure the top spot in LEC Summer 2020.
However, it is not only the honor of winning the tournament that was at stake, but also the seeding placement for the world championship that starts at the end of the month.
Fnatic against G2 is Europe’s biggest rival meeting. Almost always at least one of these teams competes for the first place and more often than not it is precisely these two teams that are pitted against each other. Fnatic may have taken home the last meeting in the semifinals, but it is also the only match of the last five that has been won by the Swede Rekkles and his teammates. The last time the two teams met in a final was during the spring league tournament. Then G2 won 3-0, despite a Fnatic who played well during the tournament in general.
Yesterday’s final match started evenly. Both the first and second match went to G2, but where Fnatic was involved in an attempt to hold back rivals. When it came to the third match in this best of 5 decisive, G2 ran away with the match. 28 kills for G2 against Fnatics 16 made the last match a clear win for the favorites G2.
