In recent years, the Ghostbusters license has been used much more on smartphones than on consoles. The ghost breakers were indeed entitled to a Match-3, a Pokémon GO-like or a Playmobil game. Along with this, Ghostbusters have appeared in various blockbuster mobile games. A few days before the release of their new film, the Ghostbusters are also preparing their video game return. And once is not customary, it is on the phone that it happens.
Studio Imprezario Entertainment has just unveiled Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe, a brand new game. This is about an augmented reality mobile game taking place in the universe of the eponymous film. In this new title, the apocalypse is approaching. Ghostbusters oblige, one of the signs of this apocalypse corresponds to the appearance of ghosts and other supernatural entities.
In Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe, the player is obviously faced with these creatures. And since the game uses augmented reality, ghosts appear in the player’s environment. In addition to taking on the ghosts with the famous Ghostbusters gear, the player must physically dodge the attacks. If he doesn’t react quickly enough, he runs the risk of having his phone covered in ectoplasm.
Who are we calling?
In parallel to these clashes, the budding Ghostbuster must solve puzzles and collect energy capsules. These are then used to power the ghost hunter equipment.
One of the peculiarities of Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe is that it features several of the comedians from the new film. Indeed, Phoebe, Trevor, Podcast and Lucky sometimes “call” the player to give him clues. Like what happens in the movie, the end goal is to prevent the resurrection of Gozer (the Gozerian).
Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe will be released at the same time as the film’s US release on November 19. The game will be released on iOS and Android devices. The economic model of the game has not yet been communicated.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife ScARe, the only video game from the film?
As for a possible return of Ghostbusters to consoles, nothing has been officially announced yet. However, Illfonic’s co-founder recently said his studio is currently working on a Ghostbusters game. It remains to be seen when the latter will be unveiled. In the meantime, PS4-PS5 players can experience the Ghostbusters Afterlife minigame made in Dreams.
As a reminder, SOS Fantômes: L’Héritage will be in French cinemas from December 1st.
