We sincerely hope that there is no Trophy to see everyone of endings in the upcoming teen horror The Quarry, because there are a whopping 186 of them. No, that’s not a typo: one hundred eighty six. Developer Supermassive Games explained in an interview with IGN how did he manage to include so many conclusions in the title.
“We wrote it like a movie script,” explained director Will Byles. “Actors are used to a 100-page script [on a movie], the script for this is over 1,000 pages long. They can be very alarmed. We have to shoot 50 pages a day, which is unheard of. It’s a lot of footage.” Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of repeats of similar cutscenes to account for all of the game’s permutations.
“We worked on 186 different endings for those characters, not just dead or alive – the stories they have along the way are hugely varied. Branches are really a mathematical nightmare. It’s just exponential.” We’re going to assume that the number of endings is filled in with minor permutations, like a character wearing a hat in one ending and not in another, but there will also be big differences.
For example, the title will tell about the relationships formed between the characters and the impact they have on the result. “We really like the idea of giving him context, so he can have the exact same conversation, but know that person just killed someone and the context changes everything,” Byles continued. Super cool!
