Iphone 14: All about 2022 models of Iphone

Update (2021-11-18):

Support for Wifi 6E

According to a new report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will add support for the new wireless standard Wifi 6E in next year’s models of Iphone.

Wifi 6E provides support for the 6 gigahertz band, something that will hopefully increase bandwidth and reduce the risk of interference.

There is already support for Wifi 6E in mobile phones from Samsung and Xiaomi and it is probably only a matter of time before most flagship models support the technology.

Of course, to use the 6 gigahertz band, a compatible router is required, for example Netgear Nighthawk RAXE500 or Linksys AXE8400.

Update (2021-10-07):

The flare pen gets smaller

There have been many different bids back and forth about what will happen to the sensor panel in next year’s models of Iphone.

Recently, technology leaker Jon Prosser claimed that the so-called flap would be replaced by a hole for the camera, something that has been in some of the competitors’ mobile phones for a while now.

According to a new rumor quoted by Macrumors however, there will be a smaller flap, so Apple continues on the path of reducing the size step by step.

If you long for a completely flawless Iphone, you have to wait until the autumn of 2023, at least as it looks today.

Update (2021-10-04):

Up to 2 terabytes of storage

There may be a doubling of the maximum storage space from 1 terabyte to 2 terabytes in next year’s models of Iphone, at least if we are allowed to believe new rumors quoted by 9to5Mac.

Admittedly, far from all users need so much storage space, but if you are shooting or filming in high resolution, it could be another five.

For example, it requires 1.5 gigabytes per minute if you select ProRes and 6 gigabytes per minute if you are filming in 4k resolution.

The task should, as usual, be taken with a pinch of salt, especially since it usually takes a while between each increase in storage space in the Iphone.

Update (2021-09-26):

Bloomberg: Iphone 14 gets a completely new design – Mini is scrapped

The relatively small updates for this year’s Iphone 13 actually mean that Apple is working on big changes for next year’s Iphone models, popularly called Iphone 14. This is what Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says in a new edition of his newsletter Power On.

Gurman states, among other things, that customers can expect a completely new entry-level model and Pro series next year. Apple may scrap the Mini model altogether – instead, both the 14 and 14 Pro will come in a “regular” and a larger size.

An Iphone 14 Max, without Pro add-ons, would thus be a novelty for next year.

Gurman also repeats previous information we heard about the 2022 Iphone, namely that the flip can disappear completely, and that the front camera can hide behind a hole in the screen.

Update (2021-09-02):

Iphone 14 is equipped with a periscope lens

The well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has on several occasions claimed that the rear camera in the Iphone will be equipped with a so-called periscope lens next year.

According to Kuo, the new periscope lens will receive support for 10 times optical zoom, something that many users will appreciate. Happily enough, neither the mobile nor the camera module will be thicker than at present.

Latest news is to South Korean The Elec claims to know that the Periscope lens will be manufactured by Jahwa Electronics, a company best known for being a subcontractor to Samsung.

Already have Patently Apple noted that Apple has in fact been granted a patent for a solution that describes how a periscope lens should be implemented in the iPhone.

In this context, it can be mentioned that there is also a rumor of an improved telephoto lens with seven elements. As for the camera on the front, support for autofocus becomes the big draw.

Update (2021-08-10):

Tasks: The processor is based on 3-nanometer technology

According to a new report from Digitimes, the 2022 models of Iphone will be equipped with processors based on 3-nanometer technology, which means higher performance and increased energy efficiency compared to today’s 5-nanometer technology.

The processors are said to be manufactured by TSMC, a Taiwanese company that has been one of Apple’s main partners for a long time.

It has previously been rumored about 4-nanometer technology for the processor in Iphone 14, this as chips with 3-nanometer technology are believed to be in short supply as they will also be used in various models of Mac and Ipad.

Update (2021-07-07):

In 2022, the entire Iphone series will have faster screens

A popular rumor about the upcoming Iphone 13, with an expected launch in September 2021, is that the phone can get screens with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, just as some Ipad models already have today. But only the Pro models are expected to get the faster technology that can provide smoother movements on the screen.

For the Iphone 14 series in 2022, however, it may look different. According to tasks from The Elec, the Iphone 14 series can consist of two 6.1-inch models and two 6.7-inch models – with a “regular” and a Pro series in each size.

These monitors can all become 120 Hz monitors, as one of Apple’s subcontractors, in this case LG, will convert its production lines to provide Apple with monitors that can handle the faster refresh rate.

Update (2021-06-24):

Tasks: Iphone 14 gets Touch ID under the screen

The latest news about the 2022 models of Iphone is that it is said to be a fingerprint reader under the screen, at least if we are allowed to believe a new report from the well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo quoted by Macrumors.

There is no indication that the fingerprint reader will replace the current face recognition, but rather a complement. This way, users can freely choose between Touch ID and Face ID for login.

It can be mentioned in this context that similar rumors abounded already before the launch of Iphone 11 and Iphone 12. If the fingerprint reader does not appear in Iphone 14, we can probably count on the rumor re-emerging before the launch of Iphone 15.

Update (2021-05-20):

New 5g modem from Qualcomm

According to Macrumors Apple will probably use the 5g modem Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 in next year’s models of Iphone.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 is a new 5g modem that offers speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second, which among other things means that it is faster to surf.

The big advantage of the Snapdragon X65 is otherwise that it becomes possible to use mmWave and sub-6GHz at the same time, which means an optimal combination of high speed and long range.

The chip is based on 5-nanometer technology, which means that it consumes less energy than its predecessors. This in turn can lead to improved battery life in the Iphone 14, but it remains to be seen.

According to previous information, Apple will use proprietary 5g modems from 2023, so the Snapdragon X65 will probably be the last 5g modem from Qualcomm in the Iphone.

Update (2021-04-15):

48 megapixel camera and 8k video

If we are allowed to believe the well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, next year’s pro models of Iphone will be equipped with a 48-megapixel camera, something that is described as a whole new level compared to what it looks like today.

Furthermore, Apple is said to make it possible to record video in 8k resolution, something that is good news for anyone who is eager to get a TV or monitor with extra high resolution.

The support for 8k video is believed to be related to Apple’s investment in mixed reality (AR / VR), this as it requires at least 8k to provide a really good experience.
