Oneplus and Hasselblad begin long-term camera collaboration

Oneplus and the Swedish camera manufacturer Hasselblad are now starting a three-year collaboration. Together, the companies will develop the next generation of camera systems for future Oneplus flagship units.

The companies have already collaborated and developed the Hasselblad Camera for Mobile for the upcoming Oneplus 9 series, which will be launched globally on March 23.

The OnePlus 9 series will use a custom Sony IMX789 sensor for the largest and most
the most advanced main camera sensor ever on a OnePlus device. The device will also have 12-bit color depth for more dynamic and vibrant colors in images that provide more room for further post-production. Hasselblad Camera for Mobile will also offer enhanced HDR video recording, as well as support for filming 4k 120 Hz video and enabling 120 Hz imaging.

The collaboration will be developed continuously over the next few years. It starts with software improvements such as color adjustment and sensor calibration and will be expanded to more areas in the future. The first result of this collaboration is the advanced color calibration “Natural Color Calibration with Hasselblad” which aims to get more accurate and natural colors for photos taken with Oneplus flagship cameras.

The new Hasselblad Pro mode will also take Hasselblad’s sensor calibration to a smartphone for the first time to achieve an accurate and natural color that will provide a solid foundation for post-production. The mode also gives photographers the ability to adjust ISO, focus, exposure times, white balance and more.

In addition, Oneplus also promises to invest over $ 150 million over the next three years to deliver “the best camera experience in a smartphone” to its users.
