In quick succession, operators Tele2 and Tre announced on Sunday that they are now launching their first 5g network in Sweden. This is done before PTS planned auction start of 5g frequencies in the 3.5 and 2.3 GHz bands, but you who have followed the 5g development in Sweden know that the operators have long stomped impatiently in the lobby.
Quick guide: What is 5g – and when is it actually coming?
The now launched, first 5g networks thus have limited scope. As of yesterday, Stockholm-based Tele2 customers with 5g mobiles in the Samsung Galaxy S20 series and the unlimited subscription form can reach up to 1 Gbit / s in parts of the inner city. On June 24, the same opportunity will also be available to customers in Gothenburg and Malmö, write the operator on his site.
Three have completed limited consumer tests of 5g in southern Stockholm since December. In June, the operator’s offer will cover significantly more customers as the city centers of Malmö, Lund, Helsingborg, Västerås, Uppsala – together with western Stockholm – are connected. Phones that are already supported this summer are Huawei P40, Huawei P40 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 10 and Sony Xperia 1 II.
Neither did Telia lie on the lat side. Today, the inaugural ceremony is held of its public 5g network in Stockholm together with Ericsson, but in fact already operates operations with 15 base stations in the capital. In June, another 60 base stations will be added to cover a large part of the city just before midsummer.
