In a rare podcast appearancePlayStation bigwig Jim Ryan has promised more acquisitions are planned. This follows strong rumors earlier in the week from industry insiders Greg Miller and Jeff Grubb, in which they alluded to a “really big” purchase. Ever since Microsoft bought Bethesda a couple of years ago, companies have been racing to steal studios for their empires, resulting in Sony snapping up developers like Bungie, Housemarque, and more.

“We are growing through acquisition,” he told the PlayStation Blog Broadcast. “We acquired five studios throughout 2021. We are in talks with Bungie. And we have more planned.” More recently, PlayStation bought Canadian developer Haven Studios, although it had already signed a publishing deal with the team led by Jade Raymond.

So who’s next then? Who knows? Despite the talk of a “really big” acquisition, it’s worth remembering that people familiar with deals like this will be legally bound to keep their mouths shut. As such, you probably shouldn’t believe anything you read on social media. However, from what Jim says here, we will surely learn more once the ink has dried.
