Clothes, pvp and exciting caves await in the new versions of Diamond and Pearl.
There’s still a while left until we can play Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl, but yesterday the Pokémon Company invited to a small party when they showed off the upcoming games. Despite the fact that the original games are 14 years old at the moment, the new versions look very cozy – and that they come with a couple of new features old fans and newcomers can have fun with.
To begin with, follow Pokémon Brilliand Diamond and Shining Pearl in the footsteps of newer Pokémon games and lets players buy and change clothes. A small feature, of course, but one that has become so standard that it would have been strange if the games had not. Most likely, these clothes will be available in stores in the different cities and will be available after different goals are reached.
Furthermore, players will interact with each other via a feature called Union Rooms where they can fight and exchange Pokémon with each other. According to the Pokémon Company, this is an area where interactions take place live, either via local networks or online. In addition, players can connect with each other and venture underground – in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl called Grand Underground! Here, players can, on their own or together, dig for objects and treasures, look for Pokémon in underground environments and build their own hiding place that can be decorated with statues.
As Pokémon Sword and Shield a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online will likely be required to play with other players online.
Just Grand Underground is can be a very entertaining activity considering that the labyrinth-like caves that stretch over Sinnoh this time contain various environments called Pokémon Hideaways. These can have different landscapes such as lush underground vaults, ice-filled caves and volcanic passages. In these Hideaways, players will encounter a variety of Pokémon, some of which can only be found there!
Show off your style
Recurring activities players will recognize are the Super Contest Show and Capsule Decoration. The Super Contest Show lets you and your Pokémon show off their artistic qualities through dance and charm! It is unclear what you will get out of the competitions, but in the past it has included costumes and items for your Pokémon. From the trailer alone, it looks like the Super Contest Show is more interactive and engaging than previous games, but it turns out when the games are released if there is something fans will find long-lasting entertainment in.
Something that I miss in modern pokémon games, however, is found again in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: decorations of pokéballs! A bit into the game, you get a small object that allows you to put stickers on your Pokémon balls, which in turn gives the balls different effects when they pop out in battle. Absolutely amazing really! A really simple feature, but something that gives your little ones more personality and glamor. Where in other games I go to extreme lengths to catch my favorites in specific pokéballs, I can instead in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Catch them in any ball and then decorate them with stickers that suit their personality. A modest Togekiss in a Great Ball that opens in a cloud of flowers is something to bet on!
Questions that remain
What’s a little amazing is that we do not yet know to what extent Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl reproduces the contents of the originals. Fans are well used by now that each generation comes with a third laggard which is like a kind of definitive edition of the pair games. Diamond and Pearl received Platinum, which, among other things, further developed the story and contained more Pokémon. At present, it is unclear whether Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are as extensive as Platinum, or whether they are more like the separate games. For example, we have not seen anything about Giratina, the third legendary dragon.
Sharp-eyed fans should have noticed, we who sat with our eyes wide open in any case, that a couple of the Pokémon that were unique to Platinum were glimpsed in this trailer. Togekiss for example. It could mean that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl embrace Platinum, and quite honestly it would be weird if the games did not because these releases are remakes, kind of ultimate editions, and to exclude such an important part as Platinum would be madness.
On November 19, we know for sure, then Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. If you pre-order any of the games, you will receive as a thank you a Pokémon egg containing the mythological Pokémon Manaphy.
