Update (2022-02-09):

According to Macrumors references to “Reality OS” have been found in open source code from Apple, as well as in logs from the App Store.

This confirms the rumor that Apple intends to release a headset for mixed reality, something that will probably happen at the end of the year or the beginning of 2023.

Recently, other clues were found in the beta version of iOS 15.4, something you can read more about below.

In addition to a new headset, there are also rumors of a pair of smart glasses, but these may take a few or a few more years.

Previously (2022-02-01):

IOS currently does not support any AR, VR or mixed reality headsets, but according to rumors, Apple is developing both a mixed reality headset that will be released quite soon and AR glasses that will come much later.

Signs that the system is being adapted for a time when users can connect such headsets to Iphone and Ipad have now begun to appear. 9 to 5 Mac has rooted in the beta of iOS 15.4 and discovered that Safari supports a developer interface called webxr. It is used to develop ar- and vr content for the web.

Developer Maximiliano Firtman has found other news in Safari: Apple’s mobile browsers are getting better support for so-called progressive web apps, web apps that are installed on the home screen. This is about support for standard icons now and signs that support for push notifications is underway.
