Review: Helheim Hassle – SENSES

Innovative game mechanics and a completely insane Viking adventure!

Your avatar Bjørn in Helheim Hassle is not like all other Vikings, who only long for epic battles and the opportunity to die an honorable death and end up in Valhall. No, Bjørn instead stays away and does everything to escape any battles. Although fate wants something different and once he falls to his death, he lands on a brown bear and kills him. To his great annoyance, this turns out to be a ticket to Valhall. Many years later, he is awakened by a member from hell when he tries to enter the Vikings’ Helheim. So when Bjørn realizes that this is his opportunity to get away from Valhall, he follows. Now all you have to do is solve all the puzzles so he can meet the Goddess Whole and get their ticket to Helheim.

Sounds the story in Helheim Hassle loopy? The is it and everything else around is even crazier. The dialogue is resourceful and fun, the characters are exaggerated and crazy and the puzzles have to be solved in a completely new way. Bjørn is dead – so he can play according to slightly different game rules than what you are used to with other protagonists in games. You have the opportunity to disconnect his arms, legs and head to solve the puzzle. Then you can combine, for example, the head and an arm to solve a riddle, to next time combine an arm and a leg or why not two legs? You can control the individual body parts individually and when the body lacks the head, you can jump higher than before.

This means that you really have many choices to solve the puzzles you are faced with. Disconnecting the head and throwing it to another level and then jumping forward and pressing a button eventually becomes the standard procedure.

I really like Helheim Hassle; This is an ingenious and fun puzzle game that goes its own way. The problems are fun and challenging and the story is entertaining and quirky. This is a great game and the possibility of Fast-travel is really appreciated. It will be many hours of entertainment for a decent little money.

The only negative I can say about Helheim Hassle is that no matter how fun and crazy the game is, the graphics leave a lot to be desired. It is really simple and thus the animations also suffer a bit. It is also a character who eventually gets a little annoying with his extravagances and the game then becomes a little too talkative.

In summary, that is Helheim Hassle definitely worth a warm recommendation. This is a crazy entertaining puzzle game, with a – in my opinion – completely unique game mechanics.
