Clever puzzle game with a new old idea.
Almost thirteen years ago, one of my absolute favorite games was released: Portal. A brilliant game, with absolutely wonderful game mechanics. So when I saw the trailer for relicta then I saw something familiar, which piqued my interest.
We assume the role of a scientist on the moon 100 years into the future. Something goes in the classic way to the forest and vips, it’s time to use their brain cells to cope with the lifeline.
relicta is a game that I got into very easily. As I said; the mechanics are reminiscent of certain parts of Portal – for example, you have cubes that you have to move, put weight on pressure-sensitive plates to be able to take us to the next section and so on. But instead of portals, we have two different force fields to work with that either pull the cubes together or push them apart. And then we have teleporters. You have a limited number of cubes for each task and it is important to use them in the right way and in the right order. It’s not entirely easy and it’s both once and twice that I really had to scratch my head to solve the task.
Using physics, magnetism and gravity as allies to solve puzzles is refreshing and fun. So much fun that I forget about how simple and clean the graphics look and how deplorable some of the voice actors are. Also did not understand why the characters would swear constantly? It does not contribute to anything, except that it feels quite banal. Fixed relicta costs no more than a Bergman and for that money you still get quite a few hours of entertainment.
In summary, I beg relicta; it’s fun to play and something that does not only lead to evil sudden death, but instead you get the opportunity to rub the genitals a little. So it is definitely worth a recommendation.
