Telltales version of Borderlands makes a triumphant retreat on console!
Now closed Telltale Games developed a number of popular adventure games over the years. Personally, I really loved theirs The Walking Dead: The Definite Edition – which in many ways was better than the TV series.
We have reviewed several parts of the Borderlands series on senses.se before, but Tales from the Borderlands is Telltales Games’s version of it all. And just as usual, they have managed to keep the mood and the feeling from the basic material, then created exciting stories in that world. (feel free to read about our Telltale Games reviews in the archive)
The game mechanics are recognizable, you have a certain amount of time to respond and keep the conversation alive. What you say affects the outcome of the game and what different people think of you. It is important to be concentrated and think before you answer. Then you end up in some firefights, but unlike playing the classics Borderlandsgames, you want to avoid fights as much as possible. As I said, it is important to keep the tongue right in the mouth, because a single misprint can really mean death.
As always, the voice acting is well directed and the script is fun and retains the crazy feel and humor from the games it is based on. Tales from the Borderlands was released for PC already in 2014 and then it appeared in five episodes. Now that the game is making a comeback on console, you get all the episodes instantly, at one and the same cost.
The only negative I can really say about Tales from the Borderlands is well that the animations are not always so nice and even if the story changes depending on your choices, this is still a fairly linear experience.
But with that said – welcome back Tales from the Borderlands! It will be a very warm recommendation from me.
