Unforseen Incidents starts with our avatar, Harper. His small town is facing an impending pandemic. Infected people are picked up by people in protective suits and then they are never seen again. Will he have time to solve the mystery before he himself is infected?
German Unforeseen Incidents premiered as early as 2018 and thus is said to have predicted the impending corona pandemic by two full years. Now the game has been converted to a console which recently received a new release Nintendo Switch. The graphics are nicely hand-drawn and even though the characters may feel a little awkward at first, they grow on one very quickly. This is an exciting story and each new place is fun to explore. Everyone you meet has recorded voices. The game is originally made in German, but the English dubbing is really good. The genre is classic point-and-click and you have the opportunity to easily see exactly all the places you can click.
Fixed also if you vet where you can click it all feels a bit awkward. You go with one joystick and look for clickable objects with the other. Here it becomes clear that the game is designed to use a mouse and keyboard. It was both once and twice that I went to exits and waited for the next place to load and I realize I missed that click on the tiny arrow, which lets me go out…
Unforeseen Incidents has, as I said, very cool and different graphics, but the animations do not quite measure up and the game thus feels a bit “simple” in its design. Text size and all that does not adapt depending on whether you are in the dock or in portable mode, so it can sometimes be a bit small to see where to click and what it says. It’s a shame when you do not think about it in Switch conversions.
In conclusion, it may sound like I was unhappy with Unforeseen Incidents, but I really am not. There is plenty of entertainment here for a relatively small amount of money. The story is well done and interesting and even if some information is really tricky, it is always possible to move on. So I recommend Unforeseen Incidents for all of us who like point and click adventures. And for those of you who have never tried it, it is not a big investment to make your first visit to the wonderful point and click genre.
