The site JRE MISSINGwhich automatically keeps track of which episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience are available, shows that at the time of writing, as many as 113 episodes of the podcast have disappeared from Spotify.

70 of these removals should have taken place recently according to The Verge while over 40 removals took place in April 2021. In none of the cases has Spotify given any official explanation as to why they were removed.

The Joe Rogan Experience is currently the epicenter of a controversy for the streaming platform where several major artists such as Neil Young and Joni Mitchell removed their music from Spotify because the podcast had guests spreading disinformation about covid-19 and vaccines.

Host Joe Rogan has defended his podcast himself and publicly apologized to Spotify for the criticism the company is now receiving.

In connection with the criticism, Spotify’s CEO Daniel Ek has responded that the streaming platform has now published its rules for illegal content externally and will also begin to clarify them more for its podcast creators. Sections that address covid-19 will now also receive a content warning that points the listener on to the company’s information hub about the disease.

Daniel Ek has previously opposed the critics’ demand to remove the criticized episodes.

The 70 episodes that have now been removed were all recorded before the pandemic, so they can have no connection to misinformation about covid-19. The sections containing misinformation about covid-19 and vaccines are still there.

Spotify acquired The Joe Rogan Experience for the platform in 2020 for $ 100 million. The podcast is estimated to have an average of ten million listeners per episode.
