Sony Cowboys: Doesn’t close PS3 and PS Vita stores

Sony has previously announced that it will shut down Playstation Store’s purchase functionality for Playstation 3 on July 2 and PS Vita on August 27. A decision that aroused criticism and confusion among several players. Now Sony is writing on its blog that they have changed and take back the decision to turn off the purchase functionality.

“It is clear that we made the wrong decision here;” writes Sony CEO Jim Ryan and continues:

“When we first came to the decision to end the purchase functionality for PS3 and PS Vita, it was due to a number of factors, including challenges regarding commercial support for older devices and the ability to focus more resources on newer devices where the majority of players are. We now see “Many of you are very passionate about having the opportunity to continue buying classic games on PS3 and PS Vita for the foreseeable future, so I’m glad we’ve managed to find a solution to continue as before.”

Playstation Store’s purchase function for Playstation 3 and PS Vita will thus continue to exist as before and indefinitely. However, the older PSP console’s purchase function via Playstation Store will still be shut down on July 2, 2021 as previously planned.
