As great as the Like a Dragon (previously known as Yakuza, of course) games are, they all have two fairly consistent qualities: they’re long, and they’re largely the same. Consider developer Ryu ga Gotoku Studio, who, not content with just making the games, decided to stream the entire series back-to-back.
He started the challenge on March 17 and completed it just over a week later, with a total of 170 hours. To be clear, he didn’t play each game in the series, just the main ones, starting with Yakuza 0 and working through to the conclusion of Yakuza 6. Still, that’s a batch of Kamurocho – and a batch of battles to reach the roof of Millennium Tower.
With the live broadcast going on for so long, there were some memorable moments: Takaya Kuroda, the voice of Kazuma Kiryu, appeared at one point, as did Goro Majima star Hidenari Ugaki. Next week, the Ryu ga Gotoku team will return to activity. After all, Like a Dragon 8 isn’t going to do itself, is it?
