This afternoon, the news struck like a bolt of lightning. Electronic Arts and Swedish DICE revealed that a brand new Battlefield game is being released and that the release is already this fall. Battlefield 2042 is intended to revolutionize the modern sandbox genre.
Battlefield 2042 takes place implicitly in the near future. The world is on the brink of ruin. The lack of food, energy and clean water has led to the total collapse of most countries, which has created the biggest refugee crisis in history. Among all these people on the run – or so-called Non-Patriate and NO-Pats – are families, farmers, engineers – and even soldiers. In the middle of all this are the United States and Russia, which have drawn the world into a full-scale war. Is anyone surprised?
IN Battlefield 2042 you take the role of a “Specialist” – a completely new type of playable soldier in the series. You get access to a large selection of, equipment and vehicles that give you all the opportunities to find your personal style of play.
The game is the first in the Battlefield series to be released for the new generation of consoles. For those with PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S / X, battles with up to 128 players are offered simultaneously. Older consoles get basically the same game, but slightly smaller fights with up to 64 combatants at one and the same time. DICE has also chosen to completely skip the single-player campaign. Battlefield 2042 plans to be released on October 22 this year.
