The XIII remake is out now, but the reception is catastrophic

The spring of 2019 was presented XIII, Playmagic’s remake of Ubisoft’s cult classic celshadade fps from 2003. The launch was originally planned for November 2019, but was delayed until 2020 a few months later. However, an extra year of development seems to have helped little, judging by the user reviews on Steam.

XIII was released on Tuesday via Steam, and despite the fact that a few days have passed since then, the average rating is still “very negative”, based on almost 500 individual opinions.

Foaming the user reviews gives us the power phrases “play the original instead”, “a miserable abomination” and “do not buy this game, they do not even give the money back”. Twitter user Thomas Ripoll Kobayashi also expresses disappointment with the graphics (perhaps the original card’s strongest card), which has abandoned the previously so strong comic book feeling in favor of something more reminiscent of Fortnite and about a thousand other games.

Here is the launch trailer for XIII, along with Thomas Ripoll Kobayashi’s tweet.
