The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency writes in one press release that the mobile networks saw a sharp increase in use in 2020. Data traffic in the mobile network increased by 36 percent, compared with the increase of 26 percent the year before. Almost all data today goes via the 4g networks, but some use of 5g could be seen for the first time in 2020.
The number of call minutes in the mobile networks increased by about 11 percent, the fastest increase in many years. SMS, on the other hand, decreased by 17 percent in 2020.
Three out of four fixed broadband subscriptions are now available in fiber networks and over 80 percent of all fixed broadband subscriptions have a download speed of 100 Mbit / s.
The number of subscriptions for all forms of fixed telephony decreased by 15 percent, while fixed telephony for companies increased for the first time in many years.
Changed behavior during the pandemic may have reinforced some of the trends we have seen over many years, not least the increased use of mobile networks. The homes have been used by many for both teaching and work in 2020, which has increased the demands for fast broadband, says Dan Sjöblom, Director General of the National Post and Telecom Agency.
