Tonight’s Nintendo Direct broadcast is now over and we’ve all had the day to digest all the new information. If you are one of those who have not yet got a glimpse of everything that has been said yet, we have here a list for you, easily divided into new, new old and everything in between. We start with the brand new (and pre-leaked).
Bayonetta 3 has a tentative date and a gameplay trailer. The slightly awkward portrait of the military made some of us raise our eyebrows, but the self-conscious cockiness of our favorite witch honestly forgives most things. Released 2022!
We also got a third part in the Splatoon series, together with a hearty trailer and pasted analysis from one of the lab rock-clad fans who usually present this game series. Splatoon 3 Return of the Mammalians looks more of the same with slightly more subtleties. Released 2022!
Kirby and the Forgotten Land becomes something as unusual as a Kirby game entirely in 3D. The game leaked a couple of hours before the broadcast, but still managed to surprise many of us. Released in the spring of 2022!
It recently announced Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars got a more solid trailer and a release date. It will be released already on October 28, and you can test a demo right now (and pre-book if you want).
Chocobo GP is the Mario Kart clone you least expected to see. The game will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch (at first, at least) and will be released in 2022.
Triangle Strategy looks increasingly polished, thanks in part to the feedback from the previous demo. The developers have some time left; the game will be released on March 4, 2022.
Mario Party Superstars had to show a trailer and a little more details. It will be released soon, on October 29.
Metroid Dread got a new trailer. It will be released in two weeks!
Deltarune Chapter 2 was also released on the Switch, free of charge. However, the next three chapters will cost, regardless of platform.
Expansions and DLC
Monster Hunter Rise gets a real expansion with the subtitle Sunbreak. It will be released by the summer of 2022.
Mario Golf: Super Rush gets new free content in the form of two new courses and two new characters: Koopa and Ninji.
Hyrule Warriors 2: Age of Calamity gets its second wave DLC, Guardian of Remembrance, October 29.
Remakes and new old
Among the new old we get the infamous Castlevania Advance Collection, a collection of the GBA’s three Castlevania games, along with a digital art book with portraits never shown before. Do you like Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance and Aria of Sorrow is this a package for you. It was released today, shortly after the presentation.
Actraiser Renaissance both were announced and released during the broadcast. In addition to the Switch, it also came to PS4, PC and mobile devices. In addition to new HD graphics (which honestly was not needed), the game includes new, reworked music and a couple of new areas (both in simulation mode and platform mode).
Other new old: Shadowrun Trilogy, Dying Light 2: Stay Human (Cloud version), Disco Elysium – The Final Cut, Rune Factory 5, Arcade Archives (Pac-Man and Xevious), Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
Two new Direct broadcasts were announced: one for Animal Crossing Horizons and one for the new fighter to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Both take place sometime in October.
New subscription model for Nintendo Switch Online
Along with the news that Switch Online will get Nintendo 64 games (something that has been rumored for a while), we also get the news that Mega Drive games will be available on the service, and that it will receive new price information. First out of the N64 games will be: Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64, Lylat Wars, Sin and Punishment, Dr. Mario 64, Mario Tennis 64, Operation: WinBack, Yoshi’s Story. And more titles coming soon, namely: Banjo-Kazooie, Pokémon Snap, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Mario Golf, Paper Mario, F-Zero X.
The Mega Drive section can be proud of: Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Streets of Rage 2, Ecco the Dolphin, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Contra: Hard Corps, Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, Golden Ax, Gunstar Heroes, MUSHA; Phantasy Star IV, Ristar, Shining Force, Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master, and Strider.
The Mario movie gets cast
Charles Martinet, who usually does the voice of Mario (and Luigi, Wario and Waluigi), has to settle for a cameo role in Illumination’s upcoming Mario movie. In the roles we will instead see Chris Pratt (Mario), Charlie Day (Luigi), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Jack Black (Bowser), Michael-Key (Toad), Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong), Frank The Army (Cranky Kong), and more. The film will be released just in time for Christmas next year, 2022.
