Microsoft has announced that in its June Developer Update for Windows and Xbox, it makes Xbox Series S a little more powerful. A new developer tools update for Xbox Series S allocates more memory for teams to use, which could result in performance improvements for both existing and future games on the system.
Microsoft says that “hundreds of additional megabytes of memory” are now available for use on the console, which should help developers bridge the performance gap of the Xbox Series X, at least slightly. The lower memory levels in Xbox Series S have often been touted as a bottleneck for the system.
These memory changes, in turn, should provide improved “graphics performance”. Yes we are not whole sure what that means in real terms, but the gist of this update is that your Xbox Series S just got a little more powerful, in the hands of game developers.
At times, Xbox Series S struggles to keep up with the Xbox Series X and PS5, offering lower framerate options in some games, which is to be expected. However, developers have often bridged the gap with the more expensive systems with post-launch patches, suggesting that with a little more optimization, the Series S comes into its own.
